Bring the Friends to the Table

Bring the Friends to the Table

Divine wine, dear friends and delicious food… Few things are better than that. Let’s talk about which dishes we recommend pairing with our wines.

Of course, everyone’s tastes differ, so there are no official rules… But, there is one pairing suggestion we must insist upon: Enjoy our wines in good company.

All of our wines are vegan-friendly, so we would like to recommend these vegan and vegetarian wine & food pairing suggestions for you to try out at your next get-together.

WINE: CAPE GREY MONGOOSE CHENIN BLANC

With its perfectly ripe stone fruit flavours, textured palate, well-balanced acidity and palate sweetness, this wine can stand up to creamy dishes, acidic dishes or mildly spicy dishes.

 PAIRS WELL WITH:

- Creamy pastas – with plenty of garlic and/ or herbs.

- Mildly spicy Mexican dishes, like refried beans, tacos or burritos

- Greek-inspired dishes like vegan Souvlaki or Moussaka

WINE: GREY DUIKER SAUVIGNON BLANC

This stunningly tangy, well-balanced white wine with its ripe fruit core and exciting, racy zing, pairs perfectly with so many dishes.

PAIRS WELL WITH:

- Raw vegetable dishes

- Caesar Salads with crispy chickpeas

- Asparagus with plenty of lemon, or pastas with asparagus.

- If you’re vegetarian – a nutty hard cheese like Parmigiano-Reggiano pairs perfectly.

 WINE: GREY HERON MERLOT-MALBEC

A soft, ripe and juicy red with flavours of berries and plums makes an elegant partner to rich, unctuous dishes, stands up to oilier dishes, and compliments most things flame grilled.

 PAIRS WELL WITH:

- Marinated mushroom steaks – grilled on the braai

- Roasted vegetables

- Mushroom-stuffed peppers

- Rich vegetarian or vegan lasagne

Remember that the serving temperature for your glass of Merlot-Malbec is important. Ideally, it should be served at around 15 – 20 degrees (lower than the commonly referred to “room temperature”).

 BAT-EARED FOX PINOTAGE

With dark berry fruit, juicy tannins, hints of vanilla & chocolate and a ripe, sweet palate – this intriguing wine is a braai-side must-have. It plays perfectly with all things flame-grilled.

PAIRS WELL WITH:

- Marinated mushroom steaks grilled on the braai

- Charred veggies fresh off the braai-grid

- Teriyaki or plum-sauce based dishes

There you have it… Now all that is left to do is gather all the friends (yours and ours) to enjoy these perfect pairings.

Cheers!
